Top Franchises in Ireland announced at the Irish Franchise Awards 2016


On Friday, April 22nd at the Radisson St Helen’s Hotel in Dublin the winners of the Irish Franchise Awards 2016 in association with AIB were announced.  The awards recognise excellence in franchising and reward the outstanding achievements of businesses and individuals in the franchise industry.  The Irish Franchise Awards celebrate 21 years this year and it is one of the longest running business award ceremonies in Ireland. This event was actually shortlisted in the category of ‘Best Award Ceremony’ at the National Event Industry Awards last year. The evening, hosted by Newstalk's Jonathan Healy was filled with heady anticipation as many familiar faces from the world of franchising were entertained by the splendid Duo Voci and a full programme of entertainment as they waited for the final results to be announced and bespoke crystal awards to be presented.


Franchise of the Year (Retail) went to Supermacs, Franchise of the Year (Service) went to Fastway Couriers; Franchisor of the Year went to AIL Group; Best Indigenous Irish Franchise went to Insomnia Coffee Company; Best Marketing Campaign went to TaxAssist Accountants; Best Franchise System and Business Practice went to Snap; the Outstanding Growth Award went to Eddie Rockets (Ireland); Franchising Woman of the Year was awarded to Mary Dillon of Sherry FitzGerald Countrywide; Best Emerging Franchise went to Freshly Chopped; Best Pilot Franchise System went to Right at Home; Franchisee of the Year (retail) went to Eddie Rockets Charlestown Shopping Centre and Clare Hall; Franchisee of the Year (Service) went to Karl Schutte from Home Instead Senior Care Ballsbridge; Best Irish Franchise Trading Internationally was BCM Business Cost Management ltd and a special lifetime achievement award was awarded to Mr Tony FitzPatrick and accepted by his son Colin FitzPatrick.


The judging panel for the 2016 Irish Franchise Awards included Newstalk Business Presenter and former Irish Dragon Bobby Kerr; Orla Nugent, Director Executive MBA, UCD Michael Smurfit Graduate Business School; Greg Swift, head of enterprise at Dublin Local Enterprise Office; Michael Bradley, former CEO of the Irish Franchise Association and Elaine O Regan of the Sunday Business Post.  Speaking on the night, Bobby Kerr commended the very high standard of the entries and presentations received and remarked on the huge numbers employed in Ireland through the various franchise systems. All finalists received a framed Certificate of Excellence on the night and winners received a bespoke crystal award and personalised branded video footage with highlights from the night.


According to recent research carried out between March and May 2015 by Ipsos MRBI for AIB and the Irish Franchise Association, the Irish franchise industry is now poised for strong growth over the coming years with over 28,000 people now working in the Irish franchise sector. The survey also notes that these employees are engaged in the operations of 2,975 different franchise units across a wide range of sectors ranging from retailing and food service right through to an interesting selection of business-to-business and business-to-consumer services.
