Top Franchises in Ireland announced at the Irish Franchise Awards 2017

On Friday, May 19th at the Radisson St Helen’s Hotel in Dublin the winners of the Irish Franchise Awards 2017 in association with AIB were announced.

The awards recognise excellence in franchising and reward the outstanding achievements of businesses and individuals in the franchise industry.  230 guests attended the black-tie gala event hosted by Newstalk’s Jonathan HealyThe evening was filled with heady anticipation as many familiar faces from the world of franchising were entertained by violinists and digital fire as they waited for the final results to be announced and bespoke crystal awards to be presented.

Franchise of the Year (Retail) went to Eddie Rockets, Franchise of the Year (Service) went to Sherry FitzGerald;  Best Indigenous Irish Franchise went to Insomnia Coffee Company; Best Marketing Campaign went to Snap; Best Franchise System and Business Practice went to Home Instead Senior Care; the Outstanding Growth Award went to Chopped, Best Emerging Franchise went to Camile Thai; Franchisee awards went to Byrdan Ltd trading as McDonalds, Paul Fagan of Action Coach and David O Hanlon of Fastway Couriers; Best Support to the Franchise Sector went to Lets Operate, Best Supplier to the Franchise Sector went to Zeus Packaging, Best New Franchise Business Model went to AIL Group for Oasis of Taste, Outstanding Contribution to Employment in Ireland went to Supermacs and a special lifetime achievement award was awarded to Andy Hennessey, formerly of Fastway Couriers.

The judging panel for the 2017 Irish Franchise Awards included Newstalk Business Presenter and former Irish Dragon Bobby Kerr; Greg Swift, head of enterprise at Dublin Local Enterprise Office; Michael Bradley, former CEO of the Irish Franchise Association and Elaine O Regan of the Sunday Business Post.  Speaking on the night, Bobby Kerr commended the very high standard of the entries and presentations received and remarked on the huge numbers employed in Ireland through the various franchise systems. All finalists received a framed Certificate of Excellence on the night and winners received a bespoke crystal award and personalised branded video footage with highlights from the night.

Over 28,000 people are now working in the Irish franchise sector engaged in the operations of 2,975 different franchise units across a wide range of sectors ranging from retailing and food service right through to an interesting selection of business-to-business and business-to-consumer services.
